Sit in silence and read a book? Sign me up!
About a 10 minute drive north from the Whistler Village, is this beautiful silent spa. The Scandinave Spa is an outdoor and indoor facility that includes steam rooms, saunas, cold pools, and hot tubs.
I heard about this spa through a family friend and wanted to come for a long time. On my friend’s birthday trip to Whistler, we stumbled on an ad for it in our hotel lobby and thought why not? It was her birthday, let’s treat ourselves a bit, and treat ourselves, we did!
Upon arriving and checking in, we received bathrobes and towels, and after exiting the changing rooms, we were greeted outside with a beautiful view. The different buildings have natural grass growing on the roofs and you have a gorgeous view of the mountains. The idea is, you walk around to each “station”, and can take as much time as you want in the saunas, steam rooms, etc. The spa recommends being at each station for about 15-20 minutes, and doing a cycle of 4 rotations to get maximum usage. The cold pools are so cold though, I had to keep myself from screaming. Should probably just try them for one minute or less.
The Spa recommends you to bring a book, I recommend it too. You are allowed in the spa for however long you want in the day, but you’re not gonna be spending all that time in the steam room. They have hammocks and chairs around fire pits just for you to take breaks. This is a silent spa, so it is a very good place to be deep in thought. It’s okay if you end up taking a nap, as long as you don’t snore too loudly 😉
The Spa also offers massages, and has a small bistro looking over the facilities where you can take a proper break, drink some coffee, and have a chat. One sitting area offered hot tea, a Scandinave Spa blend, which was very good and had lot’s of health benefits.

If you’re planning on going out to dinner in the village afterwards, don’t worry, you won’t need to leave the spa looking like a wet rat! The changing rooms supply shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the showers. They have big mirrors and vanities, set up with hair dryers, hair straighteners, and tissues. Everything is very neat and clean, just don’t forget shower shoes.
I would recommend this spa to anyone who enjoys just sitting and being a part of the atmosphere. It’s great for both singles and couples. I wouldn’t necessarily do this with a group of friends, just because I would find it a bit distracting, but I’m sure it can work for some groups. It’s a great gift idea for Christmas and best for those who want a little escape from the hustle and bustle of life.
