During this month of September, I decided to challenge myself by doing something everyday that was deemed self-care. I would post about what I did whether it was drinking more water, going or a walk with my dog, or doing skincare. I tried to do different activities everyday.
I knew from the beginning that self-care wasn’t just putting on a face mask and drinking more water, and it did become a challenge to do something dissimilar each day. Self-care is messy and I ended up only posting for half of the month. Many days I found myself just wanting to be alone, in my own space, and watching either a good movie or tv show. I guess this is what a lot of people do in their downtime and it’s not a bad thing.
A lot of days this month, I just wanted to cry due to the unforeseen stress I felt this September. When I wake up, I wanna cry. When I go to work, I wanna cry. When I come home, I wanna cry. If you haven’t already noticed, I’m a very emotional person (it’s the Pisces in me), but that’s not to say that nobody else is. A lot of people are under major stress but can handle how to deal with it and cope. What I’ve learned through this, is that my tolerance to stress levels is quite low. Either that, or I try to push emotional situations aside so I don’t have to deal with them (but that’s a whole other story).
One quote I heard this month was “If you’re not changing, your not pushing yourself hard enough.” This really stuck with me. There’s a lot of things I want to change or do differently, but it can be really hard to get out of one’s comfort zone. For me, it’s how I want to take care of myself. I don’t want to rely on watching shows to make me feel better because it’s not an activity that’s going to create quality growth in my life. So instead of trying to forget everything, I need to work on finding what distresses me, learning what triggers my stress levels, and how to overcome them.
Changing can be difficult and not everybody needs to, but I want to challenge anyone who reads this to try something different to get you out of your comfort zone. It could be something as little as doing a five minute stretch or an activity you’ve never done before. Don’t be worried about how well you did it, just try it. Do something that can improve your lifestyle. This is never going to be just sunshine and mermaids, but you need to start somewhere. If you find yourself stuck, just remember that everyday is a new day to take action.
